D&RGW express car mystery

December 28, 2001 01:52PM
Jan Rons called me this AM and asked me to do a short clinic on D&RGW coaches at the Sn3 Symposium in Phoenix this February. As we were talking a nagging question came to mind...what the heck happened to all of the express cars that were retired in June of 1951 at Alamosa ? The only ones I can immediately account for are #126 (on the D&SNG) and 168 at the Colorado R.R.Museum at Golden . I would like to know what happened to 111, 127,163,164,165 and 167. Since these cars would make great sheds I figured they would be resold as such and not destroyed , which was rare for D&RGW high cars . My guess is they are somwhere around the San Luis Valley but in my travels there I have yet to find one . I have an AFE book but it is not specific about disposition . Any ideas ?
