Logical fantasy story for D&RG Mountaineer after scrapping in 1888.

Would it be logical to have a fictional story where after being scrapped in 1888, a group of men unknowingly steal D&RG's former No. 13, Mountaineer, from a scrapyard, and hide the Double Fairlie in a shed at an abandoned mine, which gets buried by natural causes, and the engine doesn't get discovered until the 1950's or early 60's? I want to somehow have a fictional story where D&RG Mountaineer survives in the end, and has a happy ending.
