Ridgway RR days and work week

August 20, 2020 08:58PM
Two coming events at the Ridgway Railroad Museum:

1) Work week: Our annual work week was postponed from June, and will take place September 21 - 25. Anyone is welcome to attend and help out. Projects this year include painting cars, linseed oiling the interior of drop bottom gondola 702, miscellaneous work on the restoration of RGS coach 252 (spectacular progress so far, will be ready for trucks in the spring), some painting on Galloping Goose 4, and moving exhibits and files from our old location to temporary storage (the best will be moved into a room in the RGS depot starting in November, for exhibit during the 2021 season). Plan is for work from 8:30 am until about 2 each day, with 2 pm - 4 devoted to training and certifying people for operating Motor 1, the Model T track inspection car, a MOW pop car - and Goose 4! For insurance reasons, everyone training and operating the vehicles must be members - you can join on the spot for $20. The museum provides lunch each day.

If you plan to come, please contact me at jandkpet AT montrose.net so we know how many people to prepare lunch for, and to plan work.

2) Ouray County Railroad Days - September 26 and 27. Due to the virus the program will be shorter this year, no hikes or model RR open house, but we will have free rides on Motor 1, the Model T track inspection car, and Galloping Goose 4, with demos of a MOW "pop" car, and free guided tours of our new facility (railyard and 1/2 mile operations track), and maybe a presentation by Karl Schaeffer on "Steam Returns to Ridgway" if we can arrange a venue with adequate social distancing. Rides/tours will be from 9 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday, free as usual.

As of today the plan is to move Goose 4 from Telluride to Ridgway on or about September 8th.
