When we were organizing stuff in Antonito last week, I came across some air compressor castings. I believe the original goal for them was to build two fake air compressors and mount them on 494 and 495 to fill up the hole on the side of the engines.
Earl's post about 495 "Antonito's engine" brought up a point. Would anyone care?
I'd like to see those engines look a little bit better, and mounting a fake air compressor would help, I believe. I guess as long as they are on display, they should look as best as we can make them, given the circumstances. Now having said that I don't think I would put much effort into 495's fireman side, because nobody who gets over there is going to care anyway.
I know somebody who cosmetically restores steam engines for a living, I might get his feedback on the effort to replace much of the piping so it looks real when mounted.
So what do the masses think? I'd have to convince the Friends powers that be that this is worth the time and money (even though that might be minimal).
