Yesterday I found my copy of a book published by the Friends in 1995 entitled "Rotary Snowplows on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad" written by Joseph P. Hereford, Jr.
I would strongly recommend that anyone riding on the excursion try to get a copy of this book before the event. In the book, along with A LOT of great info on operations, is a two page article on pages 10 and 11 written by a guy named Earl ! The article is a must read primer on what its like to run a Rotary.
One little tease from Earl's INCREDIBLE article, "To plow the tracks from Chama to Cumbres, OY will use about 10,000 gallons of water and six to eight tons of coal."

Earl: KUDOS on your excellent article!
I found it on Amazon
