Until tunnel floors were lowered on the Pukerua Bank South of Paekakariki, DA's were turned back here.
DA 1482 built 1964 by General Motors (GMD), Canada entered NZR service 12/1964 Rebuilt Clyde(GM) Australia into DC 4790 in 1983, still running late 2019.

Russ Bidgood also caught [flic.kr] DA 1457 alongside the Paekakariki loco depot. DA 1457 was built 1962 at General Motors (GMD), Canada in service 12/1962. Rebuilt Woburn Shops New Zealand into DC 4939 03/1981, withdrawn from service on 14/08/2017.

An aside, should you visit here today, you can still see vintage DA and KA side by side at Paekakariki.
