If you haven't visited the San Juan County Historical Society museum in Silverton, I highly recommend adding it to your next visit. It is a remarkable assembly of local historical artifacts that are very will maintained and exhibited to help make sense of the mining heritage of the San Juans and rapidly diminishing ruins of the old west that dot the county.
Of particular interest is the number plate of Silverton Railroad #100, said to be found in recent times buried beneath shallow earth in the vicinity of the SN engine house in Silverton.
