Here's my latest trip report:

I visited the Southern Forest Heritage Museum in Long Leaf, LA last weekend. The museum is a 1920's era logging town complete with the sawmill, post office, belt-driven machine shop, and many other structures. And, of course, there is a railroad that, unlike most railroads, is GROWING. Needless to say it's a pretty neat place.
Now, the rails are too far apart and there are no mountains. However, in most other ways it reminds me of Chama. It's isolated. It's largely untouched by modern society. There's more than a century of history. And, it's got a nifty little railroad that volunteers like me can work on.
I'm posting this here in the hopes that I can generate some more interest in the museum and railroad. Good things are happening in Long Leaf. Please consider paying a visit.
