Today, May 9 2019, 476 brought her train thru blizzard conditions in the Animas Canyon to Silverton. A stormy day in San Juan mountains brought rapidly alternating conditions of sunshine and fierce wind and snow. James Parfrey and I hiked in to a couple of viewpoints to capture the narrow gauge in dramatic weather conditions.
A brief moment of calm before the sudden onset of furious wind driven snow
Seconds later the train virtually disappeared in wind driven snow
A slight clearing gave views of snow banks that were only recently cut through
The storm continued as 476 waited at the Silverton wye
The storm finally gave us a long enough break to hike to the waterfall at the narrows
