After the time of a Conductor having his own caboose, what was the determining factor in what caboose was chosen for a run. In the books I have I do not see a pattern. I would think that for instance on Cerro Summit where tonnage was limited a short caboose would be favored. The photos are mostly in later years and are mostly long cabooses. JP
