07:58 yesterday morning: Having been woken up by the alarm at 04:45 I'd just lit the fire. My first footplate turn in 18months, The yard is a mess as we are remodelling it so once it was lit it was shunted into the shed to put it on the pit for oiling round. Originally built in 1898 it's probably been this colour or similar since then. It's boiler ticket expires later this year, it was once passed to mainline running and was used for "Steam on the Met" in 1988 and 89. It might yet be be selected for the main line again.
The cab is a bit of an ergonomic disaster area:
Note the wonderful backhead injectors with tea cans to the fore
Also it is running forward but the indicator works the wrong way round - which catches out most/all drivers
