Two more of the Army Signal Corps prints show snowbound K-28s. Initially I thought these might be taken of the same event, but I now wonder if they are different, as the numbers on the headlights are different, although one shows the fireman's side, and the other the engineer's side. Neither shows the number plate clearly enough to read it.
SC247723 shows USA 254 buried in a drift. The note on the back indicates that 'the snowshoes are the photographer's.' This appears to be before the work of digging out the snowbound locomotive began in earnest.
SC247722 shows men beginning the tedious job of shoveling out the snowbound locomotive, in this case USA 250. I am guessing the bag on the snow is the photographer's camera bag. Not sure about the location of either of these, but looking at the landscape, I would guess these are on the north side of the White Pass summit.
If any of you have information about more of these Signal Corps photos of the WP&Y during the war, I am interested.
Cordially,
