Long Caboose question

I was watching some old footage the other day on the Monarch Branch back in the 50's and I saw something that I never noticed before. One of the side windows on the 0574 was open more than half way. Looked like you'd pull it up if it were going to open. Do the side windows in the long cabeese go up or were some modified to open? It makes perfect sense that they would, but I've never seen one open in any pictures. Just curious--anyone out there know what the skinny is?
