But before I became an Arrogant Bastard, promoting fore-doomed early-season photo specials and shoving Roger & Alan aside to take over the C&TS 40th Anniversary Celebration*** maybe I really WAS a wild-eyed foamer foamite.  After all, who but a wild-eyed foamite would give up six months of high-paying employment as a part-time junior-high substitute teacher to work for free - washing and steam-cleaning a 450-ton steam locomotive in 1975-76 ... and then do it again for a couple of weeks only nine years later. (See [ngdiscussion.net].)  Less than two months from now, I'll be doing it yet again - some people just never learn.  But at least I picked a somewhat smaller locomotive this time.   And we only have to do a really good job on the jacket - not the entire engine and tender.

*    Misguided vagrant of Cumbres Pass who travels with a heavy-cloth satchel (a 'carpetbagger' - there is no German equivalent.)

***  Actually, it was Roger & Alan who asked me to help plan the party, since I was there - helping repair the track - on 09/06/70.

Many thanks to Urias von Meyenburg for correcting the subject line above (I deliberately left the "L" of Leibhaber capitalized to emphasize how all these adjectives and nouns get strung together in German.)   I remember years ago reading in the newspaper that the scientifickers' translation of 'Hydrogen Bomb' was "Ein sehr grosses Lauden-Boomer ... Und Alles Kaput".
