Brattleboro & Whitehall Railroad Locomotive Query

October 04, 2018 03:36AM
Lately, I’ve been doing some research on the Brattleboro & Whitehall Railroad – the 3ft gauge line that ran along the West River Valley in Vermont’s Green Mountains. As far as I can tell there’s only one book on the subject, “36 miles of trouble” by Victor Morse. However, Morse is very light regarding details of the locomotive fleet. All I can glean is that there were three locos – all wood-burners. But I’d like to know the manufacturer, build year and any other technical information. Can anyone help? I’ve found a lovely old picture (attached below) of the B&W’s #2 if that’s any help. (I’m only interested in the pre-1905 period. After that the B&W was taken over by the Central Vermont, who converted the line to standard gauge and officially renamed it the ‘West River Railroad.’).
