The way Madera Sugar Pine logging was done pre-OSHA...

I found this photo taken in 1923 by forester Donald Bruce. It is titled "Oiling carriage- Northbend skyline system":

It's a little hard to see what's going on so I enlarged the center:

This employee climbed up a homemade ladder and then sat on the carriage while he oiled it! What looks like a "seat" is actually a hoop of steel that is part of the carriage. Can't imagine anyone trying to do that today. It was probably just another day at the "office" back then...
