Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec is looking for a general source of white oak timber or trees, new or used, preferably in Colorado or New Mexico.
This is just a general request for ideas. We've been getting white oak beams and blocks from some place in Illinois that has apparently gone teats-up, their deliveries being -months- late on average (The latest order, due in May, has been rescheduled several times to an alleged October date, for which I give a 20% of happening). Sort of hard to fit into a summer work week schedule.
We had a large stash of donated oak that we took to the Amish sawmill in Antonito**, which we got several end sills out of (varying sizes, around 6"x10"x8'), so we have a place to get timbers cut. We might get a few more end sills out of 2" laminated planks, but then we're out. And then we're back to the piss-useless Illinois place, egregious shipping costs, and crippling delivery roulette.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
**I can't give enough praise to our Amish saw mill. They have bailed us out many times now. I'd post their web site, but, like, they're Amish. They do rough cut/full cut Douglas Fir and oak timber for us, anything from 1"x letter board to 32' sill beams. When we first talked to them, they agreed to custom cut for us, if we had $5K in total orders per year. This year, we're pushing $30K already.
