Irv August passed away recently. He was an early photograhper and movie maker of Colorado railroads. He was part of the times with people like Uncle Bob, Kindig, Ronfur,Maxwell, et. al. that were there to record things that were almost gone.
Mr. August shot a lot of movies while others took photos. He put together a few informal books that are short runs, but full of information and verbal color.
One testament to his dedication is that he held membership card #1 with the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club in addition to venturing out or organizing many of the early excursions.
Mr. August, like Bob Richardson, liked to correspond with fellow railfans. I got a letter of thanks from him each time I bought one of his short run books. His life story in very interesting and his interest in Colorado railroads was intense.
Some details were in the most recent RMRRC newsletter, but the videos made from his films tell even more.
