Chile's EFE passenger system has a meter gauge branch known as Ramal Constitucion. The remote branch goes from Talca, Chile to Constitucion on the coast. It exists because of the many remote villages along the line lack roads. No freight is hauled. Frieght business ended when a local congressman tried to have the line closed. He also owned a trucking company. The Government EFE service continued Railcar service over the branch heavily subsidized and little if no maintainance on the track.
Now the line is now out of service due to the earthquake that was very near this line. The railbuses in Constitucion have been damaged by Tusnami that hit after the quake and washed the cars of the tracks and shown covered with debris. It is unknown at this time if the line will be reopened.
Buscarrill's in better days. Taken on on a 2005 charter.
