For all those following the progress on DRG 168, yesterday marked a milestone in the completion of the tender. With all the air brake plumbing complete and the cistern full of water, we pulled the tender around the Antonito loop to test clearances and running gear and make sure no fouling of plumbing occurred while going around the sharpest curve on the railroad. We are happy to report that everything went well with no issues. The final tender work required is the fabrication of the new main reservoir, paint, and lettering! While we are waiting on the tank heads for the main reservoir, we have begun working on the locomotive. Just to update those who may not know, the boiler form 4 is complete and no major boiler work other than normal 1472 activities are required. Currently this project is 30 days ahead of schedule and under budget, a rarity on major locomotive projects such as these.
