Thought I would thank everyone who participated in the Laws event over the weekend, it was a great event from the Carson Colorado and LRRM perspectives and I hope everyone who attended agrees as well. Both groups look forward to doing this again at some point in the future.
Mechanically the #18 did excellent with the exception of a few minor things that are easy to deal with. The return move of the #18 and tender also went exceptionally well compared to the move up (even the slowest of us learn eventually)
I also wanted to answer a few of the reoccurring questions that keep getting asked of myself and others in our group:
1) None of us involved with the #18 have any intention of restoring #9. If Laws wants to do it they better find a different group, most of us will be busy repairing our marriages after this project. It was fun moving the #9 with #18 though.
2) Yes there is the possibility of additional track, that is mostly a political question and what happens there only time will tell. The longest realistic point for track would be about 2 miles south at a road crossing.
3) We have no pending plans to take #18 anywhere in 2018. We honestly just want to finish up our Independence building track project and tweak a few things on #18. Look for 2019 to have an out of state visit.
4) No #18 will not be permanently housed at Laws. While Laws is a great place with some great people the #18 has a more substantial support base in Independence, the volunteer base, tooling and shop facilities are all better equipped in Independence so it makes no sense to move all that. Besides Independence did foot the restoration bill.
Hope this helps everyone understand our little group better. Again thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us, its been a fun ride and we look forward to the next chapter.
