Here a couple of pix of today's (6th annual) Winter Photographer's Special on the D&S:
The D&S did a superb job. The 80 or so passengers where treated to a mixed consist and some well thought out photo ops. At the photo stops in the canyon where the snow was pretty deep, the D&S had prepared paths through the snow to both mark the photo lines and also make moving about in the snow easier. In order the maximize lighting on the front of the engine, at Rockwood the engine was turned and the train backed up the canyon to Teft Spur, making photo stops both going and coming. I have been on several previous photo specials, but the crew came up with at least one photo location that was totally new to me, and it was the first time I had seen morning light on a southbound train at the High Bridge. At the High Bridge the photographers path was prepared all the way down to the river. The concession car provided all the donuts, coffee, sandwiches, soft drinks throughout the day for free. A very pleasant day, and very much worth the trip to Durango.
