This was just before Alpine Tunnel closed. For a railroad about to close its Como-Gunnison operations there were a lot of people hired and promoted. Fred Hyde must have worked out of either Gunnison or Leadville because Sam Speas was No. 2 at Como to George ``Jumbo'' Miller. They both worked the passenger train, meaning they could avoid the tunnel.
I will do the Platte Canyon list later. The senior engineer on that line was D.B. Bones, who was promoted to engineer on 2-1-1879. Davey Bones also put in some time out of Como.
