For those who have followed Eureka's adventures over the years, I am pleased to state that it has completed her 15 year FRA inspection and the Nevada State Boiler inspection. It has been a long arduous process, but at last it is done! I want to thank my wife Ditty for her help and support, Bob Shawhan, Dave Austin, and Keith Hughes for their valuable help through out the process. Thanks are also due to Chris deWitt of the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City for his invaluable help in the form 4 calculations as well as help with the boiler re tubing.
One learns a lot about the details of the machine by going through this process. For those who have done it, you know what I mean. It is a good thing that we do these inspections. These machines "talk" to us and let us know how they "feel" so that we can take appropriate action to keep them running for many decades to come. Fortunately, Eureka was in great shape. She is back together and ready for her next outing. I don't know where or when that will be, but when the time comes, she is rarin' to go once again!
