I am curious about the operations of trains that require helpers.

My first question is why use a mid-train helper instead of running the train as two sections?

What kind of stress does a mid-train helper put on the rolling stock?

Why would you use a mid-train helper instead of two locomotives on the front?

What are the reasons for a lead engine and a pusher helper on the rear?

What kind of operational challenges do each of these helper combinations present for the operating crews?
