Fred Frailey in an article in the February 2010 Trains Magazine about becoming a better railfan made a point that deserves repeating, especially in regard to the predispositions on the Gote blog.

Accept that you don't know everything. Yes, rail management does a lot of goofy things. What you as an outsider usually don't know is why events happen a they do. But a lot of people make assumptions based on insufficient facts at hand and go on from there to weave their fantasies. Other folks sign on to this fiction, and pretty soon you've got a new universe paralleling the real one. That's how good reputations get recklessly shredded."
