In following the thread about the return of the narrow gauge locomotives from Vietnam to the Alps, I began to wonder about these locomotives.

How steep a grade can these locomotives climb without the assistance of the rack system?

How steep a grade can these locomotives clime with the assistance of the rack system?

How old is the concept of rack locomotives and when was the technology actually introduced into use?

What is the load limit that can be handled by these locomotives and the technology?
