The K36s will be 91 years old next month! This is from the 1925 D&RGW RC annual report:
"New Equipment
Ten narrow gauge Mikado locomotives of 36,200 pounds tractive effort were purchased from the Baldwin Locomotive Company at a total cost of $279,506.63. These engines are 30% more powerful than the largest narrow gauge engines previously in service, and are doing the work of 24 small narrow gauge engines retired and dismantled."
The report does not indicate which specific engines they replace other than to say that they were 20 Consolidations and 4 Ten Wheelers.
It is amazing to me that only one is completely gone! But even then, parts from it do still live on current 480s.
