C&S cars on the SVRy?

While searching a wreck site earlier this year on a logging spur of the SVRy I found an unknown piece from a railcar that was cast with the markings C&S. After examining some old cars the other day at the SVRR I think I figured out what the part was, but am still curious about the C&S mark. Does anyone know if the Sumpter Valley acquired any railcars from the C&S, or are these the initials of a manufacturer? I have access to some info about SVRy cars, but none that shows original owners of the equipment.
