Silverton's Opening Day

May 11, 2016 10:46AM
Saturday May 7 was a busy one in Silverton--first passenger trains of the season, in 2 sections, and the grand reopening of the Grand Imperial Hotel, now owned by the D&S. The town has been witness to significant and at times frantic activity at the hotel that started last summer. The 1882 building has seen a top to bottom overhaul that included all new bathrooms, new carpeting throughout, massive amounts of new furniture, all with a Victorian theme, new paint, a much needed rehab of the kitchen, heating system, electrical, and on. Jim and Carol Harper gave me a tour of the building the week before the reopening and I was very impressed by what I saw. They have done a fine job. I'm a bit late in posting a few pictures, but here is a taste of what was a significant day for Silverton:
