Nov 23, 1872 Colorado Chieftain, Pueblo
Ditched –Five freight cars on the branch road, loaded with coal, were ditched last night, just the other side of the railroad bridge. Some of the cars are badly shattered, but none of the employees were hurt. The wreck will probably be cleared in time for operation today.
A party of bison slayers returned to Denver a few days ago from a week’s campaign amongst the herds on the plains east of us. They killed one thousand animals in one week, selling the hides at an average of three dollars each. It will be remembered that the party who left Pueblo a few weeks ago killed ninety eight thousand buffalo, and gave away the hides. There is not a bit of meanness about our hunters; we suppose you have noticed their clothes.
