Old Patagonian Express

While poking around the internet today I noticed that Bernd Seiler of Farrails Tours is running another charter on the Esquel (Argentina) narrow gauge line, the Old Patagonian Express of literary fame and one of the most interesting narrow gauge lines still operable. I road part of the line in the 1970's when it was still a freight hauler, and returned with Bernd for a charter in 2012. Today it only hauls tourists, but it retains a lot of freight equipment and can do fraud-o-freights just like the C&TS. Argentina is a long way away, and Esquel is in a remote part of Argentina, but if you have a bit of money to spend and some sense of adventure this has got to be one of the great train adventures left in the world. Looking at Bernd's announcement got me to looking through some of my pix. The first two I have attached are from back in the 1970's, and the last three from 2012. More of my pix on the Esquel line can be found here: My Argentina Album , and here is a link to Bernd's announcement for his charter next October: Farrails Tours
