Ridgway museum offers D&RG Business Car C

February 17, 2016 10:17AM
Due to the unexpected opportunity to acquire RGS coach 252, the Ridgway Railroad Museum will consider sale of its historic D&RG Business Car C. This car was built in 1880 by Jackson and Sharp for use as a kitchen/commissary car in a special train used by General Manager Dodge and other dignitaries, including famed photographer William Henry Jackson. This train also included the parlor car now restored as the Edna at Knott's Berry Farm. So far we have done the asbestos remediation, repaired the frame, replaced the exterior siding, re-established the original window configuration, and installed new, modern rubberized roofing. We have the correct Pullman seats for the crew portion of the car, and extensive history, drawings and progress-to-date summaries. This car was later used as an RPO and then as a bunk car. There are no trucks. This historic car deserves a full restoration and display, either on a tourist railroad or a museum.
