It seems that a lot of cars were left at Buxton, mp 252.75, 4.5 miles east of Sargent. My copy of Timetable 100, reprinted by the Colorado Railroad Museum, special instruction A-5 limits freight trains to 10 mph between Marshall Pass and MP 250.84. Since freight trains going through Buxton have passed the 10 mph track would that mean that the area was relatively flat?
I am still amazed at how a crew could stop 57-car freight train, add 40 cars, air and test the brakes in 20 minutes. Doing it on a flat stretch should have made it a quicker operation.
