So, I'm slow on the uptake here I'm guessing - but I've just put together that the "Car Shop" I now see when visiting Durango is not the same building I see in photographs from the 1940s-1970's in books like "Durango" by Dorman.
Looks like the building (original) was taken down in the mid to early 1970s? Why? Fire? Abandonment by the Grande?
All this time, I have just assumed the difference in building appearance was due to various rehabs, retrofits, etc of just "making do" that was common place with so much of the narrow gauge.
So I read in Cinders and Smoke that the "new" car shop built on the former location is "200 feet long" - is this larger than the original? How long was the D&RGW Car shop door to door?
Cheers,
Josh
