I have been scanning a collection of photos that our archives received that were taken by Richard Kindig. Based on the captions on the back of the photos and his red ink RH Kindig Denver Co. stamp, Mr. Kindig visited the Sumpter Valley Ry at least 4 times. By late in the year 1946 the hand writing was on the wall, that the mainline operations of the Sumpter Valley would soon cease. On Dec. 30, 1946 Mr. Kindig followed EX251West from the start of it's day with a light engine move in the S. Baker yard. This is the first of a series of 4 photos in our collection taken this day by Mr. Kindig as he tried to pace the train. Here is the caption from the back of the attached shot. How many of you would have braved the icy roads of the day to get these shots at -10 deg. F?
SVRR ran it's Christmas trains the last 2 days and I heard via email they had some real good ridership despite a large snow fall that required a plow extra to clear the line. Hopefully some of my friends that were on scene to make it happen will share some photos.
