Finally got to see the 3 ft gauge former Cusco and Santa Ana, Baldwin 2-8-2 #102 in the City Park here in Lima, Peru. It has been unlettered for many years, however in the last year or maybe more it has a new paint scheme. The name on the Tender is Peruvian President from the early part of the 20th Century that help fund and build several railroads.
However this loco has never been named for him. It is just a political jester that someone has come up with. Also next to it is standard gauge coach/Comidor Dining car.
The only 3 ft gauge railroad in Peru still operating is the Cusco y Santa Ana from Cusco to Agua Calientes station near Machu Picchu. The railroad operates about 5 km. beyond this point a Hydro Electric plant was built into the side of a mountain. The original route from this point to Quillabamba was washed out when the lake above the plant overflowed and destroyed the railroad. It was never rebuilt.
No drones were used to make this picture and no locomotive was injured.
That is a replica station that built as community building in the park and the only trains that were associated with the area was a now abandoned streetcar line to Chorrillos that passed the park. All evidence of the line has vanished.
