ADDED 05/30/15: If you missed it, I'm sorry - you'll just have to get by with Rich
Murray's fine photo on the back of this year's Friends' Calendar! SFAIK, a GREAT
time was had by all!
And don't forget, the C&TS 50th Anniversary is just FIVE & 1/4 YEARS AWAY,
so somebody younger, more energetic and much saner than me Needs To Start
Planning For It NOW!!!

Hi, All -
This was first mentioned at least three years ago, to underwhelming response.
After a long day of clearing track in The Narrows, and replacing bent rails at the grade crossing,
#483
pulled pushed the first C&TS work train into Chama on September 6, 1970, about 2 hours
too late for the bar-b-que that had been planned to welcome the volunteers and their train.
The first weekend of September 2010 conflicts with the Narrow Gauge Convention in St. Louis, but the last weekend of August is only a few days after Durango's annual Railfest, when visitors from all over the world are in S.W. Colorado. IMHO, it should be relatively easy to persuade many them to stay an extra few days to attend a C&TS Anniversary Party in Chama, especially if the Eureka and RGS #20 - presumably already on trucks for their return trips home - can be enticed to detour to Chama for a few days.
Just a thought, but time is running out for arranging things ...

p.s. The 40th anniversary of the last D&RGW freight operations over Cumbres Pass was August 28 & 29, 2008 - only a couple of days after my 2/3-of-a-Century "birthday" party.
