Michael Ripley's beautiful photos on another thread (see [
ngdiscussion.net]) and a request from the DRHS for pics, has inspired me to post some of my own. These are hopefully at least a little different from what Roger, Micheal, Christian and the other three dozen riders and two dozen chasers took that day.
IIRC, things got off to a slightly late start after a horrendous thunderstorm the night before. Dennis was out in the pouring rain well after dark dumping the ashes, and then was up first thing in the morning to prepare #315 for her day's work. The thunder & lightning and heavy rain & hail continued most of Saturday night, but Sunday morning saw the sun break through and the clouds begin to clear. The engine was raced to the water tower, given a quick drink, and then rushed back to be coupled to her train:
