Consolidation Question

I hope this doesn't come off as a "foamer" question with too much dream and too little reality in the mix...

Historically, the 2-8-0 Consolidation seems to have been the pervasive workhorse on Colorado NG lines from the early 1880s to about the turn of the century.

I'm curious as to why bringing back (or building a replica of) a consolidation in 1880s/1890s gstyle seems out of the question so far? And I certainly don't mean to put down any of the recent and ongoing projects.
