Tuesday marks the 48th anniversary of the death of D&RGW engineer Roy Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan was born on 5-20-1893. By 1957 he was the No. 2 man of all Durango-based engineers allowing him to bid and hold the Silverton Mixed Trains 461-462. In July of that year I got to ride my first ``big train'' the Silverton Mixed. More then Likely Mr. Buchanan was at the throttle of the 476. So he was my very first engineer.
