I will be sharing some photos later on the current status of the restoration work on the SN caboose--the body is reattached to the frame, the cupola with roof is back on, all the framing has been rebuilt and we are getting near to residing the car. And that means I've had to start thinking about how to letter the car. In my research, I have never seen a picture of this caboose other than what's in the Rainbow Route that shows any lettering. I was going through a box of old photos last night and came across a picture I took of the car back in 1957 that I then had a print made from the slide in the 1960s, and I had "lost" it in the innards of my house. What jumps out after I scanned it is the car number painted over the end door.At least that's a start, and I have a feeling that the SN was very frugal about doing much in the way of lettering. This caboose went out of service before knuckle couplers and sat behind the Western Colorado Power Co. office building outside of Silverton from at least the teens up into the 1960s.
