Here are two takes ot the westbound train just outside Antonito, at MP 283, featuring engine 489. This is at the west end of a two mile tangent, and is also a point where the grade increases.
Using a long focal lenght to look down the tangent gives some interesting visual effects. The first take was on june 6, 2011, a day of very heavy haze. If I remember correctly, the haze was from forest fires in Arizona and New Mexico. Makes for an interesting moody view, unfortunately spoiled by poor panning. Note that as the engine enters the curve, it is possible to see under the train for its full length.
The second take was on August 14, 2011, a much clearer day. The warmer day creates some interesting mirage effects from the headlight, and blurring of the bottom of the pilot and rails. Again, we can see underneath the full train length.
