1) On wooden trestle structures such as the one I am posting a photo of where the bents (upright pieces) sit on mud sills: what was/is done on ones that are very tall to splice the bents, or was the practical height the maximum length of bents that could be procured? I know I have seen a photo of a train load of coastal fir piles around 120' long, so I assume this is near the maximum length of bents that could typically be had or at least practically moved to a site?
2) Anyone like to guess the location of this trestle?
