Hello all,
I've been a fan of this site for awhile now, and I'm amazed how much
really interesting information there is lurking out there. Many of you know and share so many stories and tidbits about these steam locomotives that seems to go largely unknown until it surfaces one day as a response in a thread, only to be lost again in archives. A fellow detail-freak and steam nut, I felt there needed to be an easily accessible and dedicated reference anyone could share these great tidbits and keep tabs on their favorite Steam Locomotives.
...So I built SurvivingSteam.com. The site's a wiki, like Wikipedia for those familiar, where anyone can edit and modify a page's content. Each locomotive gets its own dedicated page for history and technical info. Pretty much anything goes, and the more obscure the better.... ranging from the color scheme details way back when (Green boiler jacket anybody...) to a loco's current status, location, and future plans.
I encourage you all to check it out and feel free to contribute your own knowledge, stories, pictures, or video about any of today's surviving steam locomotives. It's still fairly spartan in appearance, but there's more to come. I hope you'll all find it easy and informative.
Surviving Steam
Cheers,
Derek Schipper
