FEBT Rockhill work session July 18-19

July 16, 2009 10:39AM avatar
The next FEBT Rockhill work session of 2009 will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19, 2009.

We will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday.
We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.

MEALS
Breakfast both days and dinner will be available at the Iron Rail B&B, across the street from the depot. Lunch will be offered by RTY on both Saturday and Sunday. Please RSVP to me by Thursday evening, June 16, at 10 p.m. if you plan to join us for any of these meals.

WEATHER
The current forecast is for clouds and sunshine with highs in the upper 70s. Visit www.accuweather.com [www.accuweather.com] and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest weather as we approach the date.

COMBINE 14
The car crew will continue the installation of the replacement timbers under the west baggage doors. This will involve fabricating two new timbers for the main door and three for the small door. There will also be more inletting of side verticals, so bring routers if you have them and large C clamps. Lee Rainey will lead this project.

STEEL CREW
The steel crew will be working on the trucks and draft gear, and a variety of other projects around the yard. Steve Jacobs will lead this project.

BOILER HOUSE
The first job is to commence rebuilding the machine shop roof in front of the shop engine. Also, finish-up work will be done on the support post on the loco shop truss, and work will continue, depending on hands, on the work of stabilizing the bases of the stacks. Jim Bacon will lead this project.

MAIN SHOPS
The Glass Rattlers will continue window and structural repairs on the Car Shop and Boiler Shop. Carpenter tools are the order of the day for this job. Chris Coleman will lead this project.

FEBT SPEEDER
Once the proper color paint is identified the windscreen of the speeder
can be painted before the repaired engine returns. This windscreen
was sanded to remove the flaking paint and primed during the work week.
Steve Jacobs will lead this project.

GROUND RULES
To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.

Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an email in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.

See you there!
Lee
