In the 20 days from Aug 24 through Sept. 12, 1936 D&RGW natrrow gauge engines 475 and 477 each put in 3,596 miles in 18 trips. As the regular power on trains 115-116 they put in 199.81 miles per day, not counting hostling and other incidental movements.
The least used was the 472, which had only four trips totalling 389 miles before going into the Alamosa shop.
After the 475 and 478 came the 470 with 2,055 miles. The 470 filled on on trains 115-116 when the other two engines were off. The 470 also has 10 trips on the Chili line.
Chil Line engine 478 put in 1,928.92 miles, which also included a round trip to Salida for a company special. Trains 315-316 engine 479 had 1,928 miles in 13 trips. Trains 315-316 had 471 on the point four times, 472 twice and K37 495 on onces.
The 471 should be next although I don't have the exact figures as it was used in helper service and I need to look up the mileage.
The 473 had 1,632 miles.
Crested Butte engine 474 had 884 miles in 16 trips. The 474 had a high degree of availablity but also had a shorter run. Durango engine 476 had 1078 miles in 12 trips.
The K28s proved to be ``very useful engines'' to borrow a phrase from Thomas the Tank Engine. The could be have been used more if traffic warrented it.

Computing engine mileage off dispatchers train sheets and employee timetables is time consuming and hurtful to the eyes. Also, you better have a thick cushion on your chair.
