This afternoon (June 16), your peripatetic reporter returned to Lobato Trestle, and witnessed the first replacement rails touch the new bridge ties. C&TSRR track employees gave training in a new specialty to the highly skilled riggers of Reiman Company.
Unfortunately, an unscheduled surprise arose. For some unknown reason, the hole spacing in the rail ends does not match the hole spacing in the joint bars. Worse case scenario would seem to require cutting off enough rail to provide correct location of the first hole, then drilling a new second hole. Hummmmm....
Historic rail is being used -
Reads "COLORADO SEC 90 A.R.A X 1915 OH.
On a positive note, all of the gantry rails and supports have been removed, and a hopper of ballast has been moved to Cumbres.
Approaching completion -
The crane was brought in for removing the gantry rail and supports. It may also be used in rail placement.
