Dell McCoy stopped by yesterday and gave me all the 3-M Color Key proofs made from my 35mm slides that he used over the years for his various Sundance publications. These are really neat as a color key was made directly from the film separations made on a process camera. Film was shot to the final size used in the book or calendar, and then a color key was made from each of the 4 pieces of film (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow) that make up 4-color printing. These are put together in register and it gives an excellent view of what the actual printed piece will look like. I tried a scan of one of the pictures to see what happens, and the scan is not as clear and sharp as the color key. I may try some of the others. These are screened at 150 lines per inch, a standard halftone screen for offset camera work.
This particular picture dates from October 1970 when we were shoving a string of stock cars out on a siding west of the lumber mill off of the mainline to Durango.
