Question About RGS Switch Stand in Alamosa

May 24, 2011 10:44AM avatar
I'm reading Bob Richardson's "Chasing the Narrow Gauge: Vol 1" for the 3rd or 4th time. In it he talks about a switch stand (one of many) that he purchased when the RGS was abandoned. Some time in the 50's, I don't think he mentioned the date, the foreman at Alamosa asked to borrow the stand while waiting for a replacement to arrive from Pueblo. When the replacement finally arrived, Bob kept it and left the RGS switch in the Alamosa Yard. At the time the book was printed (2003) he said it was still there, but wouldn't divulge details for obvious reasons.

Does anyone know if it's still there? I'm not asking for details about the location if it's still there, again for obvious reasons. I'm hoping someone has moved it to a museum by now.

Thanks for any help you can provide in clearing up this little mystery.
